the vision of a company

The vision of a company is a declaration that it indicates towards where the company in the long term goes, or what is that one in which it tries to become.


Unlike the mission, the declaration of the vision answers the question “what we want to be? ”, whereas the mission answers the question: “which is our reason of being”.


The reason of establishing the vision of a company, is that this one serves as guide that it allows to focus the efforts of all the members of the company towards a same direction, that is to say, to obtain that objectives settle down, design strategies, take decisions and they execute tasks, under the guide of this one; thus obtaining, coherence and order.


Establishing the vision of a company, also allows that this one serves like inspiration source, obtaining that all the members of the company feel identified, it jeopardize and motivated in being able to reach it.


A good vision of company, must have the following characteristics:

  • it must be positive, attractive, encouraging and inspiring, it must promote the sense of identification and commitment of all the members of the company.
  • it must be aligned and to be coherent with the values, principles and the culture of the company.
  • it must be clear and comprehensible for all, it must be understandable and easy to follow.
  • it does not have to be easy to reach, but either impossible.
  • it must be challenging.
  • it must be ambitious, but feasible.
  • it must be realistic, have to be a possible aspiration, considering the surroundings, the resources of the company and their real possibilities.

In order to formulate the vision of a company, we can make the following questions us:

  • which is the future image that we want to project of our company?
  • which are our desires or aspirations?
  • towards where we went?
  • towards where we want to arrive?

In order to culminate, we see the vision of some well-known companies:


General Motors: “To be the world-wide product leader and services related to the transport. We will obtain the enthusiasm of our clients through the continuous improvement of our products, guided by integrity, the work in equipment and the innovation of our people”.


McDonald's: “To be the best restaurant of fast food in the world. To be the best one means to provide exceptional quality, service, hygiene and value, of way like we cause that each client in each restaurant smiles”.


Samsung: “To lead the revolution of the digital convergence”.


Wal-Mart: “To be the most efficient operator multiformat of low cost, offering to the clients the best value by its money”.
